For a while now we have been avoiding this conversation because there has not been alot of information about it. Many of our users have brought Protect-IP to our attention and as i do not see this officially affecting GPM it will overall affect the internet, economy and personally i feel it will cause more unrest on the internet as people will openly find ways to rebel and strike back.

Now i know this ****** some people off but i warn you now and only once.

**This topic is to discuss the bill and not to flame or slander the united states this site is privately owned and operated in the United States and Canada if you flame in this topic, troll or otherwise attempt to attack the US as a whole and not the bill itself you will be banned.

Understand that this bill does not represent all of the PEOPLE of the US it is corrupt corporate politics that do not limit themselves to the US. I personally do not agree with this bill.**

This and SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), a sister bill to PROTECT-IP, are both pure bonefide examples of politicians sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. These two bills are bullshit, pure and simple. They're trying to put restraints on the last free, unrestrained (to a point), uncensored frontier. For those that don't know, the way they would block access to these "infringing websites" is by deleting the DNS records on top level domain name servers (DNS is what allows you to type google.com and go to Google instead of having to type an IP address). This would threaten the core functionality of the internet and possibly result in greater problems. I also found through research that the US Attorney General could demand sites hosted in other countries be taken down which is clearly out of U.S. jurisdiction and I think not possible.

I am strongly against both these bills, as are Google and several other big-name companies. Of course the MPAA and other digital content authorities are strongly for it as they have the most to lose.

Here's the GovTrack pages for both:

    http://www.govtrack....d?bill=s112-968

    http://www.govtrack....?bill=h112-3261

(P.S. In my defense, it was stated in the first post about corrupt politics and such. My first sentence was not meant to be flaming or otherwise in breach of the rules set by daedaelus for this topic.)
What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law...

We will be affected if the video game companies (Rockstar Games) join in. And they say that this Protect-IP will make alot of jobs available & make the economy better & thats how they will probably get it passed by saying those things. this will not help the economy OR get people jobs it will put about 100,000 people out of jobs unless your a repo man or a lawyer they are the ones who are going to benefit from all this.

I'm curious to see any future attempts by lawmakers to control the internet if this bill doesn't pass.
