You would think it's Law Enforcement after bad guys but not exactly here...

A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper noticed a Miami Dade Police Officer reckless driving from lane to lane, check it out.

I have to say if it was a male cop he most likely would have been like ehh...screw it hes a cop. But obviously a woman has to go and arrest a fellow officer. Not sexist at all but i just feel it wouldn't have went down like that with another male police officer. My opinion of course.

I don't know 120 is extremely fast for any street. Here they go that fast to get to tim hortons(Canadian equivalent to Dunkin Doughnuts)Not a joke they actually do. Go down 4th street alls the sudden they pull out from the station flip their lights on ya drive into tim hortons and there they are.. Anything over the speed limit by 10 miles there should be emergency lights going and really there isn't a whole bunch that deems necessary to be going over 10 even, that cop should have been terminated cause 120 to go to an off duty job in a marked patrol unit not only makes himself irresponsible but puts a bad name for the good cops... Those lights come on and your not in an emergency too ya should get the fock to the side too not wait 7 minutes or whatever.

The guy was going lights and siren at 120 mph to a off-duty appointment, Mr. Lopez should be out looking for a new job, that's for sure.

There's just so much what the **** is up with that whole situation, she goes in gun drawn on a fellow officer, and why did she think she would get the guy to stop in the first place, how could she know that he weren't going to a call in the first place?

He wasn't running lights and sirens when I saw the video, and she pulled the gun because she was worried that the cruiser was stolen, from the video I saw a couple days ago

She could maybe have called dispatch and asked them (cops don't always run lights and siren - while approaching, say, an alarm call at a bank they turn it off, though I think they probably drive only somewhat ignoring traffic laws).

Well you would think he would have at least stopped or called into dispatch to see what was going on. Why would you elude police when you are a police officer? And here in fl i have heard of marked police cars being pulled over so i think its a good thing that the police are being help accountable for their actions.

Axxording to the video she did feel the vehicle was stolen (hence the need to arrest at gunpoint). I don't believe his statement that he never saw/heard the trooper behind him. At the end of the video I watched, she says that they do it all the time but the FHP is never able to catch them. Now that its made so many headlines (the Miami mayor is involved) I expect that they'll terminate this police officer. He probably violated a lot of department policies as well as the criminal side of it.

I know in my state generally if the state police observe another police officer driving at an excessive speed along the interstate for instance they don't initiate a traffic stop but will pass it along to the respective departments leadership (ie; Chief, Chief Deputy, Sheriff, etc) to handle internally, but I think if it became a frequent occurrence that never got dealt with internally they would eventually be forced to intervene for public safety.

I always picture the incident in Oklahoma between an ambulance and the Highway Patrol as being a model of "Don't do this". There's always other options available to an officer, sometimes a direct on the spot confrontation isn't the best available option as in that case. As for the incident in Florida the trooper made a good decision by doing what she did. There was a direct risk to public safety and she needed to intervene.

I think she should've gotten the cars Unit number and turned it in to her supervisor who would've reported it to the Miami PD, as opposed to pulling them over on the city streets.

That way, If it were an actual emergency it could be investigated and deemed as an emergency with proper corrective steps taken in the future, as opposed to taking a potentially responding unit out of service because of the uncertainty of what was actually going on.

Still doesn't give him an excuse to drive recklessly. You can use your lights while at least along the highway until you exit at the appropriate street in response to something such as a robbery, etc. and then turn them off. People on the Highway are doing anywhere from 50-80mph, and a person driving 120mph, even as an officer, is a dangerous thing because all it takes is someone to cut into your lane for you to lose control and cause an accident. At least if you had your Code 2 lights on, people would be given early warning that you are approaching behind them and take actions to get out your way, IF you were going to an emergency.

In this case he wasn't, so it would've been inappropriate and against policy anyway.

Ye I agree that he shouldn't have been Reckless Driving which pretty much cuts the cake right there. But she could have radioed in to Dispatch about this Officer but I guess she either assumed it was Stolen or that it was a Corrupt Officer just my opinion on that..
