So I'm working on a skin that requires a portion of the vehicle to have reflective bands on it. I'm using GIMP and this texture is for GTA IV.

EDIT: And I feel like a dumb *** right now. What I need help with is making the texture look reflective in the game. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

FF

He couldn't help you because you never said what you needed help with. From what you typed, it looked like you were saying what you are currently working on.

You are correct. For some reason my last 2 lines that stated what I was needing help with were deleted after I posted it. My apologies.

A reflective band or texture would be really cool. http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/grin2.png

It's going to have reflective properties to it. I might do a bunch of plain reflective skins for a bunch of vehicles so that people can use that as a base and have the reflective-ness (if you will) already there.

Some vehicles used to come with specular maps that helped them reflect a little bit in-game, but I'm not sure any of the modelers still use them. Other than that, I'm really not sure how you could manage to create a truly reflective property in a texture. What type of reflection do you want? High visibility reflective components, etc?

well. i don't know if it was intended by Lt.Caine but the paintjobs on his vehicles which support textures with a transparent background are kind of reflective.

so just make a texture with a transparent background and it should work. for more realism u could add a pattern to the reflective part, but thats optional.

This sounds interesting. I would download it, maybe this could be the next big thing for GTA IV.

As far as I can tell from my skins the colors that look most reflective are bright blue and a silver-ish grey. You could try using those colours. Other than that, as has already been said above, I do not know a way to make textures truely reflective.
