Welcome everyone to GPM 2.0 i hope everyone has made a easy and quick transition from the old system to the new system. I want to first start off by saying that we understand the new site is a bit more complicated and has tones of new things but we are here to help guide you to whatever you need. We do ask if your a modder or skinner to re-post your creations in the respected forums.

BEFORE WE BEGIN REMEMBER YOU NEED TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT ON THE SITE YOUR OLD USERNAME AND PASSWORD WILL NOT WORK.

Lets start by a basic walk-through,

So what does this site offer?

When GPM was created it never really was intended to take off as much as it did so the website (GPM 1.0) was never designed to hold a userbase of 16 thousand members and over 4.5 million visits so the site eventually slowed. It also lacked the ability to expand to what we needed and to secure it. This site does all of that and more it acts like facebook and forums were you have full control over your profiles and the site is more secure from spambots. Spambots could not be stopped on GPM 1.0 because it lacked the technology to combat the AI this site does. So here is what we got from the new site.

- Better cleaner interface

- Security

- Faster load times

- Expandable platform

- Facebook/Myspace style feel

Is there anything i could do on GPM 1.0 that i can not do on 2.0?

We decided not to add a shoutbox considering personal profiles and blogs can have comments like a shoutbox past that nearly everything you could do on GPM 1.0 you can do here and much more.

There is a Mod on GPM 1.0 and it is not here why?

Either it slipped through the cracks during the transfer or it was outdated or broken. Feel free to contact content management to resolve any lost mods.

Someone stole my name

If it is a common name like Sam or Scott then its first come first serve but if you had a unique name on GPM 1 and someone takes it you will be given the name granted the IP's from the old site match up.

Who do I report to now if someone is violating the TOS?

Nobody, each forum and most content has a "report" button use that and our security staff will investigate it.

Can I add downloads to the download page?

Most of our content is created by our staff but once you recieve the rank of "senior member" you will be able to submit uploads yourself. If you are a "member" contact content management.

I am lost and can no find anything

Search it our search system is very helpful and if you can not find it through search feel free to post a thread about it in the discussion section pertaining to what your looking for.

Can I stick with the old GPM 1.0 interface?

No, GPM 2.0 is a completely new system we did not build ontop of the old one.

Requirements

GPM 2.0 is a completely new system based on PHP and MySQL the website is optimized for firefox, google chrome, and internet explorer 7+. We have been told that the apple version of safari has had issues and i am sorry we have no plans to make this site more mac friendly. If you are encountering errors make sure your using the most recent version of these browsers and have your flash player updated to the most recent version. You can do that by clicking here (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/). The website is optimized to fit most screen resolutions but anything under 1024x768 may have some issues. Please make sure you allow cashing and cookies to this site as the old site only used it to remember your password this site uses it for much more.

im glad to see the new website, i did post something in the suggestions though. i also like the 1.5 second loading time... no joke, GPM 1.0 took about 3 minutes to load a page on the "downloads" page... keep up the good work with 2.0 http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif ok well im still wondering if i like the site or not, but if i don't then i'll just have to adapt, and i suggest putting the picture of the week or minute or whatever on the homepage

Yea, I would like to have the pic's of the minute up on top there, filled that hole quite nicly. Also, it would be nice if we could have the most recently posted in threads shown like in GPM 1.0, I liked quickly knowing what was updated recently.

Surprisingly quick EDIT: Wow, it seems as though both were done within the time I posted this seconds ago, and this edit! Did someone read my mind or my post?

Question!

Why is it so slow? It seems that everything is lagging to me, some pages take at least 30 seconds to a minute just to display a background colour of black, then a further minute or two to bring up the text!

On top of this, downloads appear to be extremely slow, and is taking 15 minutes to download a 4.5mb file http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

New site looks good!

Hope to see some community functions return, like The "Picture of the Moment". I know we can make our own gallery, but that's not the same. On the Portal page we will have more feedback and accessibility. Same for the shoutbox, user profile comment system is different.

Lets call it "mass accessible community functions"

We miss the mass community functions on the new site.

daedaelus

So you want me to simply rename the gallery to picture of the minute? it works the same way you can submit to it. The shoutbox was abused 90% of the time as much as you guys saw it as a helpful item our staff worked really hard to monitor it. I will look into a more efficent way of running the shoutbox.

Okay, i've noticed something;

GPM 2.0 was created for speed, right?

I've noticed that the downloads/loadings of screenshots/pages/forum pages, is extremely slow at this time.

Will the speed pick up?

Could it be that since it just came out, that most members are registering now, and its overloading the site for a few hours, causing it to slow?

I'm not bashing or anything, I just wanted to point this out (if others haven't noticed, or didn't say anything)

or.. maybe it's just me?

Yeah, like I stated up thar ^

It has sped up a bit since early this morning (well, the site has anyway). It's still a bit slow with pictures and loading some pages though, haven't tried downloads yet.

when can we expect all the files to be available in the downloads? i like the new way its organized. it will be a lot easier to find what im looking for http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

EDIT:

i see a lot of the vehicle models are up. YAY!

I think almost all of the mods are uploaded already, and the reason for slower speed might be that our staff is working on the site, and at the same time uploading the rest of

our files at the same time we're using It.

remember guys, our server is running TWO sites at the same time, the old site, and the new 2.0 site. so that may cause the lagging.

You need to keep in mind that a large portion of mods were published in topics throughout the forum and never in the download section. The reason Daedaelus is keeping up 1.0 until October 31st is to allow those authors to retrieve their work in case they haven't backed it up and want to move it over to 2.0. This also allows a chance for anyone that needs to access their PM's or previous topics to do so before the site is officially closed to the public.

1 hour downloads til november 1st? http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Correct... The bandwidth issue is being worked on and will continue for the most part of October. The whole site is limited to 2 Mbp/s and shared amongst all the users connecting to the site. Yes the downloads are slow but the overall page load time is way better then it was before with PHP-Fusion GPM v1.0. I might boost the sites bandwidth up later on this month but since we have to balance out the site load with the box load, it's expected for people to get a slow download and complain about it.

BTW, I've been tweaking the bandwidth to stay with-in the limits of 2Mpb/s due to the fact the site was requiring at least 6-8Mpb/s and at some points 11 Mbp/s, thats something the owner of GPM cannot allow at this time due to the fact he is paying for this site to be hosted out of his own pocket with donations (if any). Each Mega bit per sec (Mbp/s) can cost up to $20 to $45 USD a month on top of the existing hosting package. So if you are here to complain about the download speeds then you can help out by donating to the new GPM to improve its bandwidth speeds. If you decide not to donate, then you are part of the problem and not the solution. Since the owner of GPM is providing this service for free. You can't really complain about it. http://gtapolicemods.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I've went ahead and upped the bandwidth to 3 Mbp/s for all of you to share. Hopfully it will help resolve the download issues a bit.

FYI: During peak hours the connection/downloads may be slow.
